Q: How long can cooked
foods be kept in the refrigerator?
A: Typically, Poultry can be kept for a maximum of 3 days, all other
meats can be kept for a maximum of 5 days and all other foods for a
maximum of a week. Typical refrigerator temperatures are around 38
°F (6°C).
Q: Is it safe to eat
freezer-burned food?
A: As long as food is kept below freezing (frozen solid), and
stored for the recommended length of time pertaining to each food group
then it is safe to eat freezer burned food. Although it is safe to eat
the taste may be compromised. Typically, freezer burned food's taste can
be salvaged using a slow cooker, spicy meals, or with saucy recipes.
Q: What
are some of the recommended shelf lives of meats in the freezer?
A: There is never an exact science regarding frozen storage.
Packaging varies greatly amongst consumers as well as temperatures.
However, here are some recommended guidelines to follow.
Fresh Meats (Chicken, Pork, Beef, & Lamb):
6-12 months depending on the
type of meat.
Seafood: Fresh lean fish: cod, flounder, trout,
haddock, halibut,
pollack, perch: 4-6 months typically.
Fresh fatty fish: mullet, smelt, salmon, mackerel,
bluefish, tuna and
swordfish: 2-3 months typically.
Shellfish: will usually store for 3-4
months.
Q: What
diet is considered to be healthiest?
A: Although controversy still exists over which diets are
healthiest. Most dieticians will agree that the Mediterranean diet is
the healthiest with it's extensive use of extra virgin olive oil in most
of it's dishes.
Q: What
type of guests will you have on your show and why?
A: We at "Buon Appetito Providence" feel that variety is
essential to growth of our fan base. Typically we will have chefs from
the surrounding New England area that will provide variety to us with
some of their very own signature dishes and oversee the preparation of
those said recipes. Some of our other guests may consist of other
notable personalities in the New England community. We may host
politicians, doctors, local celebrities and anyone else who we find
suitable to spice up our show.
Q: Why
do you state that a little laughter will be on your show?
A: Here at "Buon Appetito Providence" we feel that cooking
shouldn't be taken too seriously and that it should be fun. Our two
hosts will provide a little laughter to lighten the atmosphere and make
the cooking experience more enjoyable. Our guests will provide fresh
ideas and topics that will make for an even more enjoyable experience.
Q: Will
you only be focusing on Italian or Mediterranean cuisine?
A: We will certainly be cooking Mediterranean dishes.
However, we believe variety is the spice of life. Therefore, we will
cover many ethnic and geographical cuisines. Furthermore, some of our
guests will come from many diverse backgrounds which will provide us
with diversity.
